We are delighted to announce an exhibition of award-winning photographs on loan from the Press Photographers of Ireland. This exhibition features photographs from some of our best-known press photographers.
The 2019 exhibition features 101 prints and chronicles the year 2018 covering all the highs and lows including the many sporting events at home and abroad, the momentous Papal visit as well as catastrophic weather events including the infamous ‘Beast from the East’.
In an age of fake news and doctored images, the critical importance of good photojournalism has never been greater. Ireland’s press photographers serve a crucial role in documenting the life of the country and putting in place the building blocks of our visual archive. Good photography never ages but enriches a nation’s history.
The Press Photographers Association of Ireland, the PPAI, is a not-for-profit, volunteer lead organization comprising of the best photographers in Ireland, both established as well as up-and-coming talent. Dedicated to encouragement, promotion and public engagement, as well as rewarding and recognition of the highest quality of excellence in the field, the Association is an inclusive, member-focused, public-facing organization, advancing the craft and its perception.
The exhibition comprises images from the 2019 awards across nine stills categories and a prize was also given for the best multi-media entry. The categories were: News, Daily Life and People, Arts and Entertainment, Portrait, Politics, Sports Action, Sports Feature, Nature and Environment and Reportage.
The exhibition, which will be on display in Donabate Portrane Community College on SATURDAY 7th and SUNDAY 8th Sept. from 11am – 5pm. We would like to thank the college and its Headmaster Mr. Creevey for kindly facilitating this exhibition which will also be on display for staff and students during its run.
