Sand Art Workshop

Time: 4.00 pm- 7.00 pm

Location: Portrane Beach. K36 XK02

Join environmental artist Sean Corcoran of The Art Hand for a unique, hands-on Sand Art Workshop on the beautiful shores of Portrane Beach. Using nothing more than a garden rake, the sand beneath our feet, and the rhythm of the tide, Sean creates vast, intricate artworks that exist only for a fleeting moment before being gently washed away by the sea.
In this workshop, participants will collaborate with Sean to create a temporary masterpiece in the sand. This is art as experience: uplifting, therapeutic, physical, and deeply connecting. The process encourages presence, teamwork, and creativity in the fresh sea air, whatever the weather. No measuring tapes, no strict plans — just intuition, movement, and shared purpose.
As the tide inevitably approaches, participants will experience the poignant beauty of impermanence — a reminder to be fully present in the moment.

Whether you’re an art enthusiast, nature lover, or simply curious to try something completely different, this workshop offers a memorable opportunity to create, connect, and experience art in its most natural form.

Church of Ireland Tour

Date: Sunday, 17th May

Time: 3.00 pm

Location: Church of Ireland, The Square, Donabate. K36 Y521

St. Patrick’s Church of Ireland in Donabate offers a captivating journey through centuries of Irish history. Built in 1758 on the site of a medieval parish church, it features a 15th-century doorway and a castle-like tower that once served as the Cobbe family vault. The Cobbes, prominent figures from nearby Newbridge House, were instrumental in the church’s development. Archbishop Charles Cobbe, who acquired extensive lands in the area in 1736, is interred here. His son, Thomas Cobbe, enhanced the church by adding a private gallery adorned with ornate stucco plasterwork and a fireplace, reflecting the family’s status. The church also houses monuments to notable families like the Barnewalls. Adjacent archaeological findings reveal activity dating back to the 7th century, underscoring the site’s long-standing significance. A visit to this church, coupled with nearby Newbridge House, provides a rich tapestry of Ireland’s ecclesiastical and social heritage.
